Newton and Kepler
Official mascots of the Boulder Knolls Observatory

Newton and Kepler were born on March 5th, 2002. These two brothers came from a litter of nine puppies, and their mother, Mora, gave birth to them in the back of a car while the family was driving from North to South Carolina.
Newton and Kepler now live at the Boulder Knolls Observatory where, in addition to public relations, their duties include avocado quality assurance, signing for deliveries, and rabbit and squirrel management.

Newton is named after Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727), an English physicist and mathematician who single-handedly contributed more to the development of science than any other individual in history. Newton is best known as the “inventor” of gravity.

Kepler is named after Johannes Kepler (1571-1630), a German mathematician and astronomer who, for the formulation of his laws of planetary motion, is considered the founder of physical astronomy.
